Factors that can lead to divorce

For the most part, Missouri couples want to believe that their marriages will last. However, science shows there are certain factors that indicate a marriage could end in divorce. These factors range from the age people get married to the way they argue.

For example, studies show that couples who marry in their teens or after the age of 32 are more likely to end up in divorce court. On the other hand, couples who marry in their 20s or early 30s have a better chance of remaining together. Another factor that could make couples more prone to divorce is if the husband doesn’t work full time, according to a Harvard study. Meanwhile, Bureau of Labor Statistics data suggests that couples who don’t finish high school have a significantly higher divorce rate than spouses who graduate from college.

According to science, other negative factors include spouses having contempt for each other and partners being overly affectionate as newlyweds. Likewise, spouses who withdraw during conflict or speak negatively of their relationships have a greater chance of divorce.

Divorce can be a very difficult and emotional time for everyone involved. Therefore, a divorcing spouse may find it helpful to seek the advice of a divorce attorney. A lawyer could protect the client’s interests while negotiating important legal agreements on property division, child custody, child support, spousal support and more. If it is necessary to modify any of these agreements at a later date, an attorney could petition the court to get the changes made.
