How easy would that be?

49590229_S.jpgIf you decided, with your spouse that your marriage was over, and that you both agreed that a divorce was the best solution to the problems of your relationship, why can't you just walk up the courthouse in Columbia, sign a document and pay the clerk $56, shake hands, and walk away divorced?

If a proposal in the French parliament becomes law, French citizens will be able to do something like that. While it seems like a straightforward proposal, some are worried that it could have a negative effect on children.

The plan would still involve attorneys on each side and a judge will still sign off on the final agreement. The danger with making divorce "easier" or reducing the process, is the concern that some spouses or children will suffer. A domineering spouse could force an agreement that might be in his or her best interest, but not that of their children or the other spouse.

Of course, every means of dissolving a marriage has disadvantages, and while Missouri's process is similar to that of Illinois, Iowa or Arkansas, it is not identical and it might be difficult to pronounce one of them as being "the best."

By working with an experienced divorce attorney and by being willing to cooperate and reach a consensus agreement, especially if you have children, you can obtain a divorce agreement that you can live with and that serves you and your children's best interests for the length of the agreement.

It is important to remember that much of the delays in the process are caused by parties making things difficult for their former spouse and by working together, you can save time and expense.
