Use your parenting plan to change your focus

38661705_S.jpgThe irony of divorce is that while your marriage can be ended, if you have children, your relationship with your child's other parent may continue for many years. Consider, if you have a two-year-old, your child custody and visitation order is likely to be in force for the next 16 years. That's four presidential elections.

Your credit cards and divorce

9404933_S.jpgCredit cards are an important financial tool to think about before you begin your divorce. They are a convenient source of financing for emergency expenses and there will be emergency expenses as the process goes along. The reason you need to carefully review your cards before your divorce is due to the nature of the financial liability they pose.

Bill mandating shared parenting awaits action by Missouri's Nixon

20637011_S.jpgThe Missouri legislature passed a bill that would make shared parenting the default presumption in all Missouri divorce cases involving children. The bill is now on Governor Nixon's desk. He has 45 days from when it was passed to either sign it or veto it.

To state the obvious

11686437_S.jpgDivorce is a court proceeding. This means that on occasion, you may have to appear in court. And even when you are not appearing in court, you have to understand that once you begin a divorce, your conduct and behavior is going to be under a microscope.
